![]() In these next series of articles I will be looking into stretching and whether it does what we think it does, the latest research into stretching and whether we could be doing anything more effective. The common reasons I hear for wanting to stretch include: “it will prevent injury”, “It will reduce muscle soreness” and “muscles will get longer and more flexible”. Stretching is, likely, something we have been taught since we first started any physical activity in school and it’s a belief that most of us still have today, despite the fact there is very little (if any research) to prove the stretching does ANY of the above statements. Today I will look at whether stretching can reduce the chances of injuries.

If you would like any more info just let me know. ![]() With back pain, one of the most common recommendations I see out there is that 'tight' hamstring muscles are one the main causes and they need stretching out. In this article I am going to be looking at how effective this actually is, I will be looking at the research carried out into this area and also see if there is anything more effective we can do to help with back pain. A common issue I treat in my studio is knee pain. The range of people suffering from knee pain can be quite big, anyone from athletes to weekend runners, whose biomechanics could be causing their knee pain, through the population who may be suffering with some from of degeneration (arthritis for example). The way I treat people, depending on the cause of their knee pain is quite different, but one technique I have found useful for most people who suffer knee pain is the use of kinesiology tape. It is great for helping calm down the symptoms and easing discomfort. Whilst it won't correct the underlying cause, its good to ease the pain whilst the underlying cause gets corrected.
